Consistency People!

Posted by Mark Cuda on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 | 10 Comments »

Surprisingly enough, (not really) this is something that a lot of bloggers struggle with. In my arrogant humble honest opinion, it’s amazing how many people don’t stick to a consistent regimen when blogging. This applies in two areas.

  1. Consistent blogging
  2. Consistent blogging style

Let’s talk about consistent blogging first off.

Consistent Blogging

When your a blogger, the timing of your posts becomes, (well should become) like clockwork. If you’ve posted every day for 2 weeks, you better keep posting that way, or your readers will think, (and rightly so) that you are neglecting your blog. Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand that everyone has certain circumstances, heck, I’ve missed a day or two here on MonkeyBlogger. But my point is this: If a blogger sees you release, say, four posts a week for three months and then doesn’t see a post for a week, and then 8 in the next week, and 1 the next week, they will be confused, and not like it. Once you established a posting “schedule” if you will, your readers will expect you to stick to that, and if you don’t, you’ll have a good chance of losing that reader, or group of readers.

One way to make sure you can stick to your schedule is writing ahead. Always have say, five or six posts on hand that you wrote up that you can post if you are short on time, (or energy) and you’ll satisfy your unknowing readers. ;)

Another way to save yourself from losing a day, or a mark when you always post, then have a guest poster or two! There will always be someone who can help you out. (Thank you to Breakaway from http://linkbuildingbible.com ;) )

In fact, when you have such a great posting schedule, then your readers will automatically return to your blog because they just know that you’ll have some new material for him or her. :)

Consistent Blogging Style

This is another area that when I personally see bloggers fail in, it really, really, really, bothers me. That area is consistent blogging style. When your a blogger, and a reader sees you write in a certain style, such as an overly formal style, and overly casually style (*cough* MonkeyBlogger *cough*) they get used to it, and if your content is good, they’ll get most likely start to like it. Now there’s nothing wrong with writing formal or casual, but the problem is when your sporadic about it! See, when someone gets used to your jokes or shenanigans, and then all of a sudden they see something really formal such as: “Hello. My name is Mark Cuda, and today I would like to discuss with you the benefits of consistent blogging.”, as apposed to your normal style of: “Hey dudes! Wanna learn how to be consistent in your blogging?! Than read on bub!”

Personally, I like the casual style, but if I know of a great blog with a formal style, I get used to it. But, if they all of a sudden get all “lol” and “omg” on you, then you get thrown off, and it can cause you to lose readers.

Well, enough about that, eh? I guess I’ve bored you long enough. ;) Anyways, I truly do hope it helps you all out, as this is something I struggled with for a long time blogging, and I think hope that I’ve got it down pat now. :P Maybe not. :D
