Niche Chosen for the MB Challenge
Well, I got some great input, and did a lot of research, and I’ve decided on which niche I’ll be doing.
Technology.
For sub-niche, I’ve decided that I’m going to go with a general technology blog.
My reasoning for this is simple, but I’ll go into detail regarding what swayed me to go with this.
For one thing, technology is something that I’m interested in. When it comes to blogging, and anything else really, you need to be motivated. To be motivated, you need to be interested. If your not interested in the subject your blogging about, and I’ve talked about this at length before, you just not going to succeed. Because deep down, the money you might make will not be enough of a motivator for long.
Another reason why I went with technology is because it’s a big money making niche. Because of the fact that it is such a large niche, it will be easier to find advertisers for a technology blog as opposed to a blog about hairbrushes. Along with this is the fact that many people are interested in technlogoy, making it an easier niche to find readers for.
But, there are not just Pros to this niche. One con is the fact that there are already a ton of blogs on technology, such as TechCrunch, Gizmodo, Engadget, etc. For this reason, it will be touch to break out onto the scene. But I have some unique ideas and plans for this, so I think we’ll be fine.
More on
that later.
One other great thing about a technology niche blog is that I can find a lot of things to write about, so we won’t be stuck with nothing to write about.
Well, that’s it!
My reasons for my niche choice. Now remember, thsi doesn’t automatically mean that you should go with a technology blog, but there just tips that you can use. Look at all the pros and cons of your niche. Write them down even. Be 100% sure that’s what you want to do before you commit yourself, and right off the bat, you’ll set yourself up for success.

Interesting choice for a niche Mark. I debated a lot on whether I wanted to get into the tech blog business, but the competition was on of the things that really threw me off.
It’s going to be a hard journey :).

I think you made a good choice Mark, though it will be hard to break into the surface of tech blogging. If you get out there and promote strongly, write good content, and network a lot, I think you will make it. People will not do this for you, though we help choose, but the promotion you will have to come up with or buy. Not an easy road. I think the challenge should move on a little faster, for people may be waiting around. My friend decided on a name and domain for a music blog within seconds, and I am not saying having your readers help is a bad thing, but I think that it should move on a little faster.
^^^ Yeah, as you know, I have been going through family troubles, (my grandma dying) and it’s just been tough to even get to working on this. But I’m more or less back, and will be posting on this daily or semi-daily.
With regards to promotion, I have some things up my sleeve, and we’ll talk about that more.
Also, when it comes to you guys helping, it’s more of a suggestion basis, I make the actual decisions, but you guys give input so that basically, we all gather knowledge from each other.
@ Nat - I think it took my a total of 2mins to come up with the name for my blog. I just sort of popped in one day…
@ Rob - yeah sometimes a name will just come to you, “green flamingo” just popped out at me. I didn’t really think about it, I just wanted that name.
Good luck…. you definitely either need to break reviews of a product first, or review interesting stuff that the majors arent

I run quite a number of blogs and I can assure you that based on my experience, a tech-related blog is a really winning idea. In that market there are just so many potential posts, and loads of advertisers also looking to throw money at you. Also there is so much junk content out there that a few decent posts gets quite of few incoming links. Mine is now PR 4 after just a few months and I’ve barely spent anything on marketing it - the links have just come naturally. Good luck with it!
